Celebrating the Life of Ginny Watkin '49

On Saturday September 29 family members of Virginia “Ginny” Guild Watkin, class of 1946, held a remembrance ceremony at the Cosmos Club for Ginny, who passed away in April.  Born in 1925 in Clinton, Mass., Ginny was committed to Wellesley throughout her life and an early member of the Business Leadership Council, the Center for Research on Women and provided pro bono counsel to and was an active member of the Washington Wellesley Club. She led an incredibly rich life, both personally and professionally. Ginny graduated from Columbia Law School eight years before Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was herself a trailblazer, and became the first female partner at law firm Covington & Burling. Her family life was equally full: she married Donald Watkin in 1946 and they raised four children together and were close to their large extended family of five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

A capacity crowd of 150 people, including family, colleagues, friends and members of the Wellesley community, attended the Cosmos Club ceremony in her honor. We have a photo gallery from the event on the WWC web site, which you can access here.
