Jacqueline Musacchio ’89, Professor of Art, will give a lecture on the College Hall Fire of 1914 at the Phillips Collection museum in DC during the afternoon of Saturday, May 18th.

Until March 17, 1914, Wellesley’s splendid College Hall was the heart and soul of the College.  The building housed students, faculty, staff, classrooms, laboratories, art, and more, all in a single monumental edifice. Indeed, for 39 years, College Hall was Wellesley. That immense presence overlooking Lake Waban took four years to build. But early on March 17, 1914, it took only four hours to burn.  Although no one was hurt, and many objects were saved by students and faculty as the fire burned, much was lost on March 17, 1914, and College Hall was left in ruins.  We hope you can join the Washington Wellesley Club and  Professor Musacchio to learn more about this pivotal event in Wellesley's history!

Your ticket to the lecture will also include a reception with soft drinks, wine, beer, and light appetizers, as well as admission to visit the museum after the lecture.
